If love is about sharing joy, laughter, and countless meals together, then my relationship has been blooming like a garden full of roses—except my growth has been on the weighing scale! This isn’t just another article about how happy I am with my partner (which I totally am, by the way). Instead, it’s about the very real and tangible proof of our happiness—my happy weight gain.

Yes, it's a thing! They say couples who are truly content together tend to gain weight. And, well, I’m living proof.

Looking back to 2020, I was at my so-called perfect weight. Fast forward to today, and let’s just say the scale has been on an upward trend, all thanks to love, laughter, and an increased calorie intake.

But why does this happen? Is it because we get too comfortable and stop obsessing over fitness? Or is there some hormone that equates happiness with a growing waistline?

While science does suggest that relationship satisfaction can lead to weight gain due to decreased stress and increased comfort, my reasons are a little more... relatable.

The Real Reasons Behind My Happy Weight Gain:

  1. Date Nights = Food Fests

When we first started dating, we couldn't get enough of trying new restaurants. From candle-lit dinners to casual food truck adventures, every outing was a chance to indulge. And let’s be honest, saying no to dessert on a romantic date is just cruel.

  2. Chocolates, Because Love

Love languages? Mine is officially “receiving chocolates.” Whether it’s an anniversary, a bad day, or just a random Tuesday, my partner has made sure my sweet tooth stays active. And, of course, I have zero self-control.

  3. Netflix and Snacks

The early days of the relationship were all about dressing up and going out. Now, it’s more about PJs, a cozy couch, and an excessive number of snacks. Because what’s a movie night without a pack of chips?

  4. Cooking and Eating Together

Love has a way of making everything feel special—including cooking. We started experimenting with new recipes, trying comfort food from different cultures, and, of course, taste-testing everything in the process.

  5. Zero Judgment Zone

Gone are the days of "I should eat a salad instead." Now, it’s more like "Let’s order extra fries because why not?"There’s no pressure to impress, no fear of being judged. Just pure, blissful food freedom.

But Am I Complaining? Not at All!

Yes, I’ve gained some weight, but I’ve also gained so much more—memories, comfort, security, and a relationship that prioritizes joy over unrealistic body standards. My partner loves me in every size, and most importantly, I love me too.

Maintaining the Balance

While I’m not actively trying to lose weight, I’ve found ways to maintain a healthy balance without missing out on the joys of food and love.

  1. Outdoor Adventures – We started going on hikes and long walks together, making fitness feel more like a fun shared activity than a chore.

  2. Gym Routine – I’ve committed to hitting the gym three times a week, not to chase a number on the scale, but to feel strong and energized.

  3. Mindful Eating – Enjoying indulgences without overdoing it. Savoring every bite and making conscious food choices while still allowing treats.

  4. Active Date Nights – Instead of always opting for dinner, we now mix it up with walking, jogging, hiking or even just exploring new places on foot.

So, here’s to love—the kind that makes you laugh, makes you feel safe, and sometimes, makes your jeans a little tighter. But also the kind that inspires you to stay active, happy, and healthy together.
